FAQ

Annual 10K Race in Hale, Michigan, Register Below!

    • What time does the race start?
      • Promptly at 8 am!
    • When/where do I check in?
      • If you are in town the night before, we always have a spaghetti dinner.  This year’s dinner will be at The Bear’s Den Restaurant, located at 6805 M-65 in Hale from 4-7 pm.
      • If you are arriving the day of the race, you may also check in at the starting line beginning at 6 am.
    • Can I register in person?
      • Yes!  You can either register Friday night at the spaghetti dinner (see above) or at the race itself starting at 6 am.  Late registration is $45 (cash, check, or credit).  Click here to print out a registration form.
    • Where is the starting line?
      • The race starts just outside the boat launch on Kokosing Road.  The address to the launch is 4900 Cherokee Avenue.
    • Where is the finish line?
      • Right back where you started!  The distance around Long Lake is almost exactly 10K (6.2 miles).
    • Are there bathrooms along the course?
      • There are bathrooms at the start/finish line.  Participants may also use the restroom in the Long Lake Bar.
    • Are there participant medals?
      • Yes!  Thanks to an anonymous donor, we were able to purchase a finisher medal for each participant.
    • Are there prizes for the winners in each age group?
      • Yes!  The 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place male and female in each age group will receive a different medal to celebrate their achievement.
      • The age groups are:
        • 19 & under
        • 20-29
        • 30-39
        • 40-49
        • 50-59
        • 60 & up
    • Is there a prize for the overall winner?
      • Yes!  The first place overall male and female will each receive a pass for two to play 18 rounds of golf at Green Briar Golf Course in Lupton!  Cart is included.
    • When is the awards ceremony?
      • We are never sure when we can start the awards ceremony, because we hate to start it before the final runner crosses the finish line.  However, we expect it to start at by 10:00 am.  Stick around after you finish!
    • Do walkers earn any special prizes?
      • Unfortunately, no.  It would be difficult to enforce the rules of an official “walk only” race.  All walkers will receive a finisher medal and a t-shirt.
    • Will there be enough shirts?
      • It is always a guessing game to order shirts for people who have not yet registered.  While we would love to have enough for everyone, shirts are expensive and hard to sell after the race is over.  We moved the shirt deadline to July 4th so we could at least guarantee shirts to all of the early bird registrants and we did order a lot of extras, but there are no guarantees.
    • Can we buy extra shirts?
      • Yes, if we have them!  Extra shirts will be sold for $20 (cash, check or credit).
    • Do volunteers get shirts?
      • Yes!  Every official volunteer will get an orange shirt.  Look for them the day of the race if you need anything!  They will be helping people register, serving water & Gator-Ade along the race course, handing out refreshments at the Finish Line.  Make sure you thank them for their service!
    • Can I ride my bike on the course?
      • Yes!  But not as a participant in the race.  Spectators have been known to ride along with the runners/walkers. We just ask that you stay clear of the runners & walkers.

How many water stops will you have at the race?

Is there somewhere to swim after the race?

    • wayne.wheatley says:

Yes! The starting/finish line is at a boat launch and a local public swimming area. There are no lifeguards on duty, though.

    What does the race benefit?

Will there be a station to buy extra shirts at on the day of the race?

    • wayne.wheatley says:

Yes, but shirts are not guaranteed. Some years we run out, other years we have too many left over. It is hard to predict.

Is the spaghetti dinner actually AT the Bear’s Den this year? Not Eagles Pointe?

When will 2016 results be posted? Thank you!
